Got colleagues who need access to your game's analytics? Here's how to give your team members access to your Gameplainer Dashboard.
If you're using Gameplainer to monitor your game's community feedback and analytics, you might want to share access with other team members - whether they're community managers, marketing staff, or technical developers. The good news is that Gameplainer's dashboard access is tied to Discord server permissions, making it easy to grant (or revoke) access to colleagues.
Gameplainer uses your Discord server's permission system to determine who can access your dashboard. This means anyone with the right Discord permissions on your server can log in to Gameplainer and view your analytics, configure monitoring channels, and manage settings.
The required Discord permissions are:
1. Manage Channels
2. Manage Webhooks
3. Send Messages
Alternatively, users with the Administrator permission automatically have full access to your Gameplainer dashboard.
The cleanest way to manage team access is by creating a dedicated Discord role with the necessary permissions.
1. Open your Discord Server Settings
- Right-click on your server name
- Select "Server Settings"
- Navigate to "Roles" in the left sidebar
2. Create a new role
- Click the "+" button to create a new role
- Name it something like "Gameplainer Team" or "Analytics Access"
3. Assign the required permissions
In the "Permissions" tab for your new role, enable:
- ✅ Manage Channels (under "General Permissions")
- ✅ Manage Webhooks (under "General Permissions")
- ✅ Send Messages (under "Text Permissions")
Click "Save Changes"
4. Assign the role to team members
- Go back to your server's member list
- Right-click on the team member you want to give access to
- Select "Roles" and check the "Gameplainer Team" role (or whatever you named it)
5. Have them log in
Your team member can now visit gameplainer.com and log in with their Discord account. They'll automatically see your server's dashboard.
If your team already uses roles like "Staff", "Moderators", or "Dev Team", you can simply add the required permissions to that existing role:
If someone needs full access to everything (both Discord and Gameplainer), you can give them the Administrator permission:
⚠️ Note: Administrator permission grants full control over your Discord server, so only use this option for trusted team members.
Once your colleagues have the required permissions and log in to Gameplainer, they can:
- View all analytics and charts for your monitored games
- Configure Discord notification channels
- Add or remove monitored games and social accounts
- Access sentiment analysis and community insights
- Download reports and export data
Need to remove someone's access?
Simply remove the role from that Discord user, or disable the required permissions on their role. They'll immediately lose access to your Gameplainer dashboard the next time they try to log in.
Want read-only access for some team members?
Currently, Gameplainer doesn't have granular read-only permissions, but you can work around this by:
- Creating separate monitoring channels for different team roles
- Using Discord's channel-specific permissions to limit who can modify settings
- Communicating with your team about who has configuration responsibilities
"My team member logged in but can't see our dashboard"
- Make sure they're logging in with the same Discord account they use on your server
- Verify they have all three required permissions (or Administrator)
- Ask them to refresh their Discord server list in Gameplainer by logging out and back in
"Can I invite people who aren't in my Discord server?"
No, team members must be members of your Discord server to access your Gameplainer dashboard. Simply invite them to your Discord server first, then assign the appropriate role.
"What if I only want someone to see analytics, not change settings?"
While Gameplainer doesn't currently support separate read-only roles, this is on our roadmap! For now, communicate with your team about who has configuration responsibilities, or set up a separate viewer-only Discord server if you need strict access control.
