Hello! I'm Chris Hanney

I've been building Gameplainer to help support the games I've worked on, and over the years it has grown to support many other studios too.

I'm always happy to hear from users - whether you have questions, feedback, or just want to say hi! Don't hesitate to reach out.

💡 Frequently Asked Questions

You might find these answers helpful before reaching out:

There are a few common reasons:

  • Bot permissions: Make sure the Gameplainer bot has permission to post in your Discord channels. Check your Discord server's role settings and ensure the bot role can "Send Messages" and "Embed Links" in the target channels.
  • Channel not enabled: Visit your Gameplainer dashboard and confirm the channel is marked as "enabled". Disabled channels won't post any content.
  • No new content: The bot only posts new content it finds. If there haven't been any new Steam reviews, Reddit posts, or social mentions since your last check, nothing will appear.

If you've checked all these and still have issues, feel free to reach out!

Gameplainer has built-in filters to help you manage content quality:

  • Automatic emoji flags: Reviews are automatically tagged with emojis like 🐛 (bug reports), 👺 (troll content), 💰 (price complaints), and ⏳ (length complaints).
  • Follower count filter: For social searches, you can set a minimum follower count to ignore accounts with very few followers (often spam or bots).
  • Keyword muting: You can add specific keywords to mute in your channel settings to filter out unwanted topics.
  • Subreddit muting: For Reddit searches, you can mute specific subreddits you don't want to monitor.

Your free 14-day trial includes:

  • Up to 2 game monitors (Steam, Meta Quest, Microsoft Store, etc.)
  • Up to 2 social search channels (Reddit, Twitter/X, BlueSky, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok)
  • Full access to all filtering and customization features

After the trial, you'll need to set up payment to continue using these channels. You can manage your subscription anytime from your dashboard.

Setting up Gameplainer is easy:

  1. Sign in to Gameplainer.com with your Discord account
  2. During onboarding, you'll be prompted to authorize the bot for your server
  3. Make sure you have "Manage Server" permissions on your Discord server
  4. Select which game or social channels you want to monitor
  5. The bot will automatically create Discord channels and start posting content

The whole process takes just a few minutes!

Absolutely! Gameplainer supports monitoring:

  • Game platforms: Steam (reviews, forums, community posts, streams), Meta Quest, Microsoft Store, Viveport, Itch.io
  • Social platforms: Reddit, Twitter/X, BlueSky, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Google Alerts

You can enable or disable any channel at any time from your dashboard. Each platform has its own customization options for filtering and formatting.
